The Problem
A regional art museum isn't competing with other museums — it's competing with everything else. Phoenix Art Museum had the collection and the curation, but its brand and digital presence didn't reflect the caliber of the institution. The website especially: functional, but not aspirational. It wasn't bringing people in or building the museum's reputation beyond the local market.
The Insight
The work of an institutional rebrand isn't to look more like a museum. It's to make the museum feel essential — for the audience that already has it, and the audience that doesn't know they want it yet. The digital experience needed to carry that ambition end-to-end.
What we did
Brand strategy and rebrand work that ran through the museum's voice, art direction, illustration system, and full website redesign. The site became the centerpiece of the rebrand — an immersive digital experience built to match the visual ambition of the world's best institutional museums and carry PAM's story well beyond Phoenix.
The Result
A digital flagship that positioned PAM with the visual ambition and editorial confidence of the world's best institutional museums — earning the kind of recognition that travels beyond the local market.
The rebrand gave the museum a brand and a digital presence capable of carrying its reputation as far as its collection deserves.
Recognition
Awwwards nominee — one of the most recognized honors in global digital design, awarded to websites that set the standard for design, usability, and creativity. For a regional art museum, reaching that shortlist puts PAM in the company of the world's most design-forward institutions.
